The World War II Memorial in Washington, D.C., was vandalized on Thursday, with the words “Clean Hands, Dirty Money” spray-painted on the site.
Bubbles also overflowed from the memorial’s fountain as a result of the vandalism. Authorities are investigating the incident.

U.S. Park Police blocked off the memorial on the National Mall.
“Clean hands, dirty money,” letters in bright spray paint said.
Before police cordoned off the area, people played with clouds of bubbles filling a fountain. Police have not commented on the bubbles in the fountain.
President Donald Trump said investigators are “on their trail” after the World War II Memorial in Washington, D.C., was vandalized with red paint and a substance that caused bubbles to fill a memorial fountain.
Trump condemned the incident in a Friday post on Truth Social, calling the vandalism “a grave insult” to the Americans who died during World War II. He also referred to those responsible as “animals.”
“Our beautiful World War II Memorial was just hit by Spray Painting Vandals,” Trump wrote. “First the Reflecting Pool, now this. We are on their trail! Where do these animals come from???”
