Trump Takes Aim at Big Meat Processors, Seeks More Power for Farmers and Ranchers

President Donald Trump announced plans to take steps aimed at breaking up what he described as a concentrated meat-processing industry, saying farmers and ranchers should have greater ability to process and sell their own food.
Trump argued that the industry is dominated by a small number of large processors and said legal documents would be prepared to give farmers and ranchers greater control over processing their products.
Ranchers and Farmers have always been a number one priority for me. They work very hard, are smart, efficient, and immaculately CLEAN, but for years I have heard that they have had a tremendous problem with the Big Processors, who many say are a nasty Monopoly. There are, essentially, 4 of them, a very non competitive number, and they make life miserable for our wonderful Farmers and Ranchers, and I can’t let that happen, can I? So, in order to break this powerful monopoly, with much of its ownership based outside of the U.S., I am authorizing legal documents to be drawn in order to allow Farmers and Ranchers to be given the right to PROCESS THEIR OWN FOOD. Trump told Glenn Beck on Wednesday he would look into changing beef processing regulations.
He also told him that his administration inherited high beef prices and that they “are coming down very rapidly.”
President Donald Trump called in Wednesday morning for an interview with Glenn Beck, where they talked about the possibility of changing beef processing regulations, the death of Dolly Parton and foreign relations with Russia and Iran.
Beck, a conservative commentator who previously ran talk shows on CNN and Fox News, brought up the topic when Trump began talking about affordability and prices “coming down very rapidly” across different sectors amid the war with Iran.
“I inherited high prices … and we’ve really gotten them down,” Trump said, adding about Iran, “Don’t forget, when we, when I did this, people thought the oil would go to $10 a gallon.”
“But we had to do it. We had to stop them from having a nuclear weapon, and we did. And the prices are coming down very rapidly,” he continued. “And now beef is starting to come down … you know, the means, the beef has started to come down.”
