European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has just been speaking to reporters on the sidelines of an informal EU meeting.
She says the talks between US and Ukrainian officials in Geneva, Switzerland yesterday established a “solid basis for moving forward” in peace negotiations.
Coordination between European countries and a “strong European presence” at the talks “has allowed us to make good progress in the negotiations for just and lasting peace in Ukraine,” von der Leyen said.
“While work remains to be done. There is now a solid basis for moving forward,” she added, urging countries to “remain united” and “keep placing Ukraine’s best interests at the center of our efforts.”
